As a freelance editor, I’m delighted to work with authors at any stage in their career and on revisions big or small. At Tin House magazine, I was privileged to edit the fiction and essays of writers including Rebecca Makkai, Kelly Link, Steve Almond, Mira Ptacin, Ann Hood, Francine Prose, Justin St. Germain, Alice Sola Kim, and Alexandra Kleeman. These pieces won Best American Essay and Best Science Fiction and Fantasy awards and the Pushcart Prize, and once was included in collection that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. As an editor for Tin House Books, I was honored to work with Jenn Shapland on My Autobiography of Carson McCullers (2020; finalist for the National Book Award in nonfiction, winner of the Publishing Triangle Judy Grahn Award for Lesbian Nonfiction, finalist for the Lambda Literary Awards, longlisted for the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Nonfiction) and JP Gritton’s Wyoming (2019, and a Kirkus Best Debut Fiction pick, “an authentic, pitch-perfect portrait of an America too often caricatured or ignored” per Alice McDermott).
My freelance experience includes collaboration with Joss Lake on his incendiary novel Future Feeling (Soft Skull, 2021) and with Aspen Matis on her bestselling memoir A Girl in the Woods (William Morrow, 2015), as well as work on successful self-published memoirs and with many other writers, at all stages of their careers and with different visions for our work together. Whatever your project, my hope as editor is to make it be its best, most realized version of itself. If you’d be interested in working together, please drop me a line to discuss rates.
Queries about my own writing also most welcome!
